Greek Fest in Concord, California, September 11-13

This weekend the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 1955 Kirker Pass Road in Concord. They put on this event every year and it's always a lot of fun.  They feature live music, dancing, shopping and of course food and wine! The dancing is usually a presentation by the youth group and they wear full costume.  It's always very cute to watch.  Rhiannon and I usually stop by every year and I always attempt to get her to try a new food... maybe this will be the year?!

The festival is open Friday from 5-11pm, Saturday from noon-11pm, and Sunday from noon-8pm. Children under 12 are free, admission is $5, $3 for seniors.

Opa!

Come be Greek for a day!

Suspicious man now spotted at Monte Gardens Elememtary.

A white male in his 50's with grey hair and grey mustache has attempted to get two different boys into his vehicle at Pleasant Hill Middle School. A man matching this description was seen around Monte Gardens Elementary, video taping kids, cars, houses. The woman with him for the first reported attempt is described as having dark skin, black hair, a nose ring and wearing scrubs.

Quite disturbing to me was this information found in the San Jose Mercury News:

Both Pleasant Hill sightings are being treated as "suspicious circumstances" by police because no actual abduction attempts occurred.

Possible Kidnapping attempt in Pleasant Hill, California

Dear Walnut Creek School Community,

I received an email from Dick Nicoll, Superintendent in Mt. Diablo School District, concerning a possible student abduction attempt at Pleasant Hill Middle School (next to the County library.) A man approached a male student in his PE clothes. He called to the student and said, "I need to show you the new meeting spot for your mom." The man was a white male with gray hair, grey mustache, and a thick accent. A woman, with a nose ring, was with the man. The boy walked away. The Pleasant Hill Police Department was informed. Principals will all be reminding students not to talk to strangers or go with strangers for any reasons. I wanted to ensure that all parents were aware of this incident.

Sincerely,

Patricia Wool, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Walnut Creek School District

I don't have an answering machine at home that works, so I received the information from one of the other mother's at the school.  She was nice enough to call me to let me know.  While my daughter is 11 and I was pretty sure she would never go with a stranger, of course we had the talk anyway.  I wanted to pass on the description (bolded above) so we can be alert when picking up and dropping off our kids.

I was told this incident took place last Friday, however in researching today I found it was Thursday, immediately after school.

I'm so happy the boy approached was smart enough to turn the other way and report this immediately.

Take care everyone,

Got Curb Appeal?

Thought I would share a very good article from our friends Sue Geurs and Laura Harvey of The Property Promoters.

Chirs@StagersLIST.com

Got Curb Appeal?

You know what they say about first impressions... The first thing a potential buyer sees is a visual of the home curbside. House Hunters make up their mind within 10-15 seconds of pulling up to the curb whether to go into your home or not.   You have to make an inviting impact within seconds, so don't neglect the outside of your home when it's time to put it on the market.  How to get started?  First step back and look at your home with the eye of a critical buyer and then follow our tips.

Tips to increase your home's curb appeal

•         Replace a rusty mailbox with a new one that fits the look of your home

•         Replace old, ugly or outdated house numbers

•         Clean and replace if necessary, exterior light fixtures, ensure maximum wattage to keep your home as bright as possible at night

•         Remove any security door or storm door, remember you are selling!

•         Clean, paint or replace front door as necessary

•         Cean, clean clean!!!!! Clear out all cobwebs and get rid of any rust, if you can see it a buyer can see it!

•         Clean door and windows, trim, steps, railings, the patio or deck, everything you view on the home, as necessary

•         Clean or better yet replace the welcome mat, you can always take it to your new home once you sell)

•         Consider replacing door hardware if outdated or in poor shape.  Ensure door hardware, kickplate, number sign and mail box all match an dmake sure the house numbers are visible from the road.

•         Make sure your landscaping is up to date, lawn mowed, bare spots covered, rock replaced were needed, you want everything looking fresh and new

•         Powerwash the exterior of the house and drive way along with sidewalks or paths leading up to the home, add an eco- friendly green cleaner, you can actually wash your house believe it or not, and make sure any rust spots are removed.

•         Cracked or stained cement should be repaired

•         Consider using plants at your entry way or fresh flowers in the window boxes to make the home more warm and inviting...................It can be hard to be objective about your own home, in fact once you have lived  in your home longer than 6 months you lose your own objectivity and that's where hiring a professional home stager can really pay off.. Staging your home can increase the value by thousands of dollars and staged homes sell faster in any market.  Check with the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA) for an accredited home stager in your area and get started on improving that curb appeal today!
