Update on feral mom & 5 kittens - PLEASE spay and neuter your pets!

Some of my animal rescue friends may remember that within days of my agreeing with my daughter that she could have a little kitten, I looked out the window & saw a feral cat with 5 baby kittens.

It's been a VERY long experience, with interference help from the neighbor.  We now have success, however.  Two of the Siamese, if you please, are with me.  Dutchess and Thomas (that's Miley, the new kitten I agreed to, with her arm around the new baby).

The 3 Siamese were inside longest and were the most tame, as you can see above with Rhiannon.  My sister took Spirit home, who is the strangest cat... he loves water, has supreme patience with the baby, and is just a delight.

El Diablo (named this because the girls - Rhiannon & her bff - were afraid of her, is now Kiwi).  Her owner had her sleeping curled around her neck in bed with her within 2 days.

Mystery, named Mystery because she loved to have me visit and talk to her, but would not let me near her, is now Beatrice.  Her new owner gave me Peach Cobbler as a big thank you.  Mama Cat (Lady Jane) looks like Mystery/Beatrice.

And finally, the Mommy, Lady Jane, was spayed last week.  I kept her in the garage for a week and she hid from me the entire time.  I only knew she was okay because she ate and drank (and used the litter box, THANK YOU) when I was not looking.  I let her out yesterday, and I saw her today, she's finally talking to me again.  Sweet thing will be my forever outdoor cat. (My mother wants her, and as soon as I have her tame we may transfer her over to that house).

The best part... No more kittens from Lady Jane or any of these 5 babies.  PLEASE spay and neuter your pets!  Thomas (Tommy) is being neutered next week, and Dutchess will be spayed soon after (she's so tiny!).

Gayle Balaban - The Best Spot Realty - New Website

Hello Active Rain Friends!

Those of us in the It's Raining Dogs group know Gayle as a poodle lover and poodle rescue volunteer.  She does a great job sharing photos of her poodles, and updating us on poodle shows, rescue, etc.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Gayle to create her Real Estate website.  It was a lot of fun (I love making websites) and we think it turned out well.  Of course, there is little info about poodles.  : )

Gayle also has some gorgeous lakefront land listings you might want to check out.  If you have a referral in Tennessee, Gayle is a great choice.

AND if you need help with design, redesign or creation of your website, I'd love to help!  StagersLIST.com is offering website templates and original creations to fit every budget.  We also offer affordable hosting, with a 30% Active Rain Member discount.

Couple more I just finished:

Staging by Design

Walnut Creek Team

and of course:
The Best Spot Realty

Thanks for letting me talk about work!

YOUR staging business...are you doing everything you can to be successful?

"Remember, your business is just that...YOUR business and you must make your own decisions about what is going to help your business grow and be successful.  Only if you are getting a paycheck from a company, are you working for them, and only then do they have the right to tell you what you can and can not do. "

Wise words from our friend Gail Alexander, and great advice.

Via Gail Alexander~Seattle WA Home Stager ~The Plant Atrium (A Division of My Staging Resources, Inc.):

Are you doing everything you can to be a successful professional stager?

There are many, many ways you can grow your business.  And as an independent business owner, you need to do everything you can to make sure you survive and thrive, especially in this economy.  Realtors are constantly taking all kinds of classes and are affiliated with many different associations and organizations which shows the public that they are serious about what they do.  You, as a stager must do the same thing.  Why do you think that so many Realtors you meet have what they call the 'alphabet soup' after their name?  Ask them and they will tell you, the more education and associations they have, not only helps them keep up with their industry, but when someone is looking for a Realtor, guess who has the most credibility?  Are you following their lead?

Imagine this...you are selling your home and interview several agents.  They all tell you pretty much the same thing and so there doesn't seem to be a clear choice.  Fast forward...you are reviewing everyone's proposals and one of the agents has several abbreviations behind their name and the others do not. Which one will you choose?  I can tell you which one I will choose...every time!  Now, that Realtor you chose tells you that your home needs to be staged before it goes on the market (and if they are good, they already have a stager on their team) but not every agent is there yet.  Once again you interview several stagers and they show you beautiful photos (some of which are NOT even their own)!  You are struggling with your decision until you see the abbreviations behind one of the stagers names.  Again, which one will you choose?  Which one do you think is the most serious about their business?

Remember, your business is just that...YOUR business and you must make your own decisions about what is going to help your business grow and be successful.  Only if you are getting a paycheck from a company, are you working for them and only then do they have the right to tell you what you can and can not do.

As a Professional Real Estate Stager who has been in the business for over 10 years, I have seen and been part of the many changes happening in this industry.  And I can promise you this...there is going to continue to be many more changes.  Do you want to be part of an industry that is looked upon as professional?  If so, you need to read what I have said very carefully and make the decisions that are right for you.

Chris steps out from behind the computer and interacts with other humans.

Not only am I on the bus & on the road with StagersLIST this year, I'll actually be out in the real world and not hiding behind my computer.  Okay, I'm pretty sure I'll bring my laptop with me, but I will be conducting a workshop at the 2009 Expo series... I will be talking to people and not just hiding behind the monitor.  That's rare, ask my friends.  I can talk, and do, I just don't often do it in person.

We have some great workshops coming up, and in Orlando (Expo 3/17/09, workshop series 3/18/09), here is what we're offering:

We've all been "That Guy"

I was waiting for a parking spot the other day and someone slipped in right in front of me.  So, of course, I cussed a little and found a different spot.  When I got out of the car the man who had taken my spot came up to me and apologized, as he hadn't seen me waiting there.  He said, "I just didn't want to be That Guy."  I said it was fine and went on with my day.

This made me think, though.  We never know what's going on behind the scenes in anyone's life, even those we know well.  For at least a year after my cousin passed away I was in a fog.  I'm sure I was That Guy very often and was completely unaware of it.  I was grieving.

I guess I just wanted to remember to give people the benefit of the doubt.  To realize that something may be going on behind their scenes that is causing them to be rude, distracted, whatever.  Have a little compassion and realize everything is not about you.

I was very proud of my daughter the other day.  She and her friend were talking about things another friend said about each one of them.  My daughter was angry at the time and said, "Next time she wants a play date, mom, say no!"  The next day she came home from school talking about how she had played with the same friend who had said the rude thing about her.  I asked why she wasn't mad.  She said, "I figured she must feel really bad about herself to say something like that about another person."

That's it, just my thought for the day.  : )
